Lyondell Chemical Company Reports on Effect of Houston Storm

HOUSTON, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE: LYO) reports that LYONDELL-CITGO Refining (LCR) experienced some operating disruptions as a result of the storm in the Houston area over the weekend. At approximately 7 pm Saturday, a small flash fire occurred at one of the coker units at LCR. Three employees were injured. Two were treated and released at a local hospital. The third was airlifted to a burn center in Galveston. The injuries are not life-threatening and the employee is recovering. The cause of the incident is currently being investigated. Currently the refinery is running at approximately half its rated capacity. LCR is in the process of determining when full operations will resume.

Lyondell reports minor problems at the La Porte, Texas chemical plants (olefins and polymers) due to the storm. The units were shutdown briefly, but are now operating normally. No major problems occurred at any other Lyondell or Equistar chemical plant.
