Crockett and Deasy Lead Chemical and Polymer Sales for Lyondell and Equistar

HOUSTON, May 16, 2002 - Russell T. Crockett, Jr., and J. Vaughn Deasy have been appointed to lead the sales functions for the recently consolidated Chemicals and Polymers organization of Lyondell Chemical Company and Equistar Chemicals, LP. Both bring strong experience in the chemical industry to their new assignments.

Crockett is named Vice President, Chemical Sales-Americas. In this function, he is responsible for North American intermediate and performance chemical field sales and national accounts, all petrochemical sales and national accounts, and South American sales and operations. Prior to this appointment, Crockett served as vice president, Responsible Care(R) and engineering. He has also served as hydrocarbons plant manager for Equistar in Channelview, Texas, aromatics business manager, and treasury consultant.

Deasy is named Vice President-Polymer Sales for Equistar. In his new position, Deasy leads the sales function for Equistar's basic and specialty polymer business units. Basic polymers include low-density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), polypropylene (PP) and high- density polyethylene (HDPE) products. Specialty polymers include wire and cable insulation, polypropylene thermoplastic olefins and performance polymers. Prior to this appointment, Deasy was Vice President-HDPE Business Management for Equistar, and has held a variety of commercial assignments in the polyolefins businesses since he joined Lyondell in 1989.

Lyondell and Equistar Chemicals, LP, of which Lyondell owns 41 percent, recently integrated business management, marketing and sales activities to streamline and improve processes, eliminate duplication and increase cost efficiencies. The consolidation of Lyondell's intermediate and performance chemicals and Equistar's polymers businesses is one outcome of that integration.
