Lyondell Announces Marketing Alliance for Cooling Agents
HOUSTON

Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE:LYO) announced that its Millennium Specialty Chemicals ("Millennium") business has entered into a marketing alliance with Salvona Technologies to promote the use of Millennium’s cooling agents with Salvona’s delivery systems.

By combining Millennium’s cooling agents with Salvona's delivery systems, the companies plan to offer new microencapsulated products that provide improved performance in such applications as personal care, food and beverage and pharmaceuticals.

Millennium will continue to directly market physiological cooling agents as ingredients and cocktails. In addition, the marketing alliance will allow Millennium to refer customers to Salvona when customers would benefit from Salvona's expertise in formulating microencapsulated coolants. Millennium's customers also will become better acquainted with Salvona’s proprietary line of microencapsulated flavors and fragrances and other coolant-containing functional ingredients. Moreover, the alliance allows the companies to jointly advertise, market, and sell the new products, and to promote them at industry trade shows.

"Millennium is a major supplier of physiological cooling compounds, and we are a pioneer in

developing new compositions, such as our WinSense (WS-5) product," says Douglas Rash,

Lyondell's director of sales and marketing, flavors and fragrances. "While physiological coolants have been used principally in food, beverage and oral care, Salvona’s nanotechnology delivery systems will expand their utility to a broader range of applications. We are excited about our alliance with Salvona and the value it creates for our customers."

WinSense cooling agents offer superior performance as a result of an improved sensory profile, lower cost, and greater ease of use versus individual cooling agents, which typically are sold in crystalline or powder form.

Salvona’s product slate includes MultiSal™ SalCool™, NanoSal™ SalCool™ and MultiSal™ Flavor/Cooling. The MultiSal SalCool system delivers an intense odorless cooling sensation for both emulsion and anhydrous product applications.
