Lyondell Launches Impress™ Dry Cleaning Solvent

Houston, April 23, 2004 -- Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE:LYO) has introduced Impress™ dry cleaning solvent, a new non-perc (perchloroethylene) alternative that gives dry cleaners a powerful high-performance cleaning solution without the regulatory and other issues associated with perc.

Compatible with hydrocarbon machines and readily biodegradable, Impress solvent is a propylene glycol ether-based solution that effectively cleans and brightens a wide assortment of fabrics, yet it is gentle enough for the most delicate clothing including wedding dresses, sequined gowns and fine beaded clothing. Additionally, Impress solvent reduces pre-spotting and post-spotting treatments.

Impress dry cleaning solvent is not listed as a hazardous air pollutant (HAP) or as a hazardous waste material by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), so the amount of reporting, recording and paperwork is minimized. This allows dry cleaners to focus more of their efforts on servicing their customers. Unlike some dry cleaning solutions offered by other manufacturers, Impress solvent does not have affiliation fees.

“The Impress product represents a breakthrough in alternative dry cleaning solutions that the industry has been waiting for,” says Ellen Lenz, market development manager, Lyondell. “It addresses many of the concerns dry cleaners have with the existing solutions found on the market, including regulatory concerns, cleaning performance and value.”
