HOUSTON, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE: LYO) will begin supplying anhydrous isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to the merchant market in January 2008. The company will produce IPA at its world-scale chemical complex in Channelview, Texas.

IPA is a widely used solvent for cleaners and coatings. It is used, for example, in paints, inks, household cleaners, lacquers and thinners for wood finishing, adhesives, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, disinfectants and deicing fluids. IPA is also an important chemical intermediate needed for the manufacture of methyl isobutyl ketone, isopropyl acetate, isopropylamines and other products.

In addition to IPA, Lyondell offers an extensive line of oxygenated solvents including ethyl alcohol, methanol, tertiary-butyl alcohol (TEBOL® 99), ethylene and propylene glycols, glycol ethers and esters, VOC-exempt tertiary-butyl acetate (TBAc™ solvent), propylene carbonate, N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP), gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), tetrahydrofuran (THF) and high-purity methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE).
