LyondellBasell Activates its Disaster Relief Fund
Houston, Texas

LyondellBasell has a fund to make timely grants to assist U.S. employees who have suffered significant losses due to natural disasters such as Hurricane Ike, as well as tornadoes and floods. The LyondellBasell Disaster Relief Fund is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that is sustained by contributions from the company, its employees and outside donors. The Fund can make timely grants to help affected employees deal with sudden loss and displacement.

The Fund is a tax-exempt, qualified charitable organization under United States tax law, so assistance received by U.S. employees from the Fund is not taxed as income, and contributions made to the Fund by U.S. donors are tax-deductible. Under its corporate matching grant program, LyondellBasell provides a dollar-for-dollar match to all employee contributions to the Fund.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, the Disaster Relief Fund is being mobilized to offer assistance to employees in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana who were severely impacted by this devastating storm.

How Employees Request Help

Employees who have suffered a loss as the result of a natural disaster can request support confidentially through an email to checkin@lyondellbasell.com or by contacting their Human Resources representative. They also can complete a confidential on-line form on the LyondellBasell website at http://www.lyondellbasell.com/ike_index.htm . The HR representative on the Disaster Relief Fund Board of Directors will then help coordinate the request for assistance within the Fund Board. Once eligibility is determined, the Fund can quickly respond to individual needs.

Who is Eligible to Receive Assistance?

Hourly U.S. employees (represented and non-represented) as well as salaried U.S. employees of LyondellBasell and its affiliates (including but not limited to Lyondell, Equistar, Basell, Millennium and Houston Refining) at the Lyondell Tier IV, Basell grades CPG to B4, or equivalent level are eligible if they have experienced:

  • Forced evacuation from their primary residence due to a natural disaster

AND

  • Significant or substantial damage to, or total destruction of, dwelling and personal belongings

Assistance also is available to employees who experience financial hardship because they have been forced to evacuate their homes and, due to natural obstacles, government orders or substantial destruction of their primary residence, are unable to return.
