Basell to exhibit at Interplastica in Moscow

January 26, 2007 – Basell will display its leading polyolefins capability in technology, production and marketing at Interplastica 2007, Russia’s foremost trade fair for the plastics and rubber industries. The event takes place January 30 through February 2 at the ZAO Expocentr Exhibition Center at Krasnaya Presnya in Moscow. Basell will be at stand number C 32, located in Hall 1.

“Our presence at Interplastica is another way of demonstrating Basell’s strong commitment to Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia,” said Georges Barbey, head of the company’s newly opened Moscow office. “Customers who are seeking a clear advantage in this dynamically growing market can benefit from hearing about the polyolefin products and processes available from Basell. These range from tailor-made resins from the proprietary Catalloy process to polybutene-1 grades.”

Also to be featured at Interplastica are innovative Basell products with special performance attributes. These include Clyrell grades that provide an outstanding combination of optical and mechanical properties – in particular high transparency, gloss and impact – and Metocene grades that are produced with proprietary Avant M catalyst systems and are characterized by narrow molecular weight distribution and extreme homogeneity.

The Basell booth will also be a showcase for the company’s leading process technologies. Basell is the world leader in the licensing of polyolefin process technologies, and to date the company has granted more than 200 process licenses, from its comprehensive process portfolio of polyethylene and polypropylene technologies  Basell’s licensing offering includes the newest Spherilene LLD/HDPE swing gas phase process as well as the Spherizone process technology, which can produce besides the full range of polypropylene grades new families of propylene-based polymers with enhanced product properties.

In addition to its Moscow sales office, Basell’s presence in Eastern Europe includes the Poland joint venture Basell Orlen Polyolefins, which operates two world-class plants -- a new 400 KT Spheripol polypropylene unit and a new 320 KT Hostalen high density polyethylene unit in Plock. These plants serve the fast-growing polyolefin market in Eastern Europe in addition to customers throughout Western Europe.

Further reinforcing the company’s commitment to the region is Basell’s memorandum of understanding on the development of the first integrated world-scale petrochemical complex in Kazakhstan in partnership with KazMunayGaz Exploration and Production and SAT & Company. This complex is expected to include polypropylene and polyethylene plants based on Basell technology.

Alastian, Basell’s “no-frills” online business channel will also be on display at Interplastica. Alastian has in a very short period of time proven its value in the Eastern European region.
