Ian Dunn, President of Basell International addresses Plastindia 2006 Conference

Changing Industry environment - A focus on Polyolefins - Ian Dunn, President of Basell International addesses PLASTINDIA 2006 Conference.

8 March 2006, New Delhi, India: - “As an industry, we face dramatic external change, a coming revolution in supply economics and a huge shift in market power,” remarked Ian Dunn, President of Basell International at the PLASTINDIA 2006 Conference on 11 February 2006.

Feedstock, wealth and population driven growth are the three determinant factors which define the polyolefins market, Ian Dunn observed.  “The ‘wealthy’ nations no longer exhibit significant market growth, the feedstock owning nations have a relatively small population and the most populous nations have relatively little feedstock.

Europe will need to adjust to remain competitive, the Americas will largely be self-contained but subject to globalising cost pressures, Japan will re-structure towards niche activities, whilst China and India drive the demand growth and the Middle East drives the capacity growth,” he said.

“The best companies will survive, and drive the restructuring process, through a combination of financial strength, customer focus, excellent cost management, strong execution, creativity as well as agility,” he stressed.

Ian Dunn was among several other national and international members of the industry to speak at the PLASTINDIA 2006 Conference in offering insights and innovations as well as providing suggested actions for many of the important issues facing the plastics industry today.   Held alongside the PLASTINDIA 2006 exhibition, the two-day international conference brought together eminent scholars, professionals and industry experts for a fruitful engagement in charting a path for growth and accessing opportunities.
