Lyondell Chemical Company's European TDI Plant Successfully Completes Performance Testing

HOUSTON, April 2 -- Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE: LYO) announced today that its European TDI plant in Pont de Claix, France, has successfully completed its final capacity performance test.

During the test run, the Pont de Claix TDI plant consistently met or exceeded production targets under sustainable, safe and reliable operating conditions. It now has an annual production capacity of more than 126 kilotons (274 million pounds).

The Pont de Claix plant, which is operated by Rhodia for Lyondell, employs Lyondell's proprietary Tolochimie TDI production technology, resulting in lower costs and enhanced safety. Pont de Claix is the biggest TDI unit in Europe and one of the largest in the world. Its production ensures Lyondell is well positioned to continue delivering world class product and services, satisfying the growing needs of its customers.

A major global producer of TDI, Lyondell manufactures TDI at Pont de Claix and Lake Charles, Louisiana. The company's total annual TDI capacity is more than 255 kilotons (574 million pounds).

TDI is used in the production of polyurethanes for flexible foam applications ranging from furniture, bedding and carpet underlay to transportation and packaging. TDI also is used in the manufacture of coatings, sealants, adhesives and elastomers.
