Lyondell, Equistar Select Click Commerce for Internet-Based B2B System, Equistar Makes Equity Investment

HOUSTON, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Lyondell Chemical Company (NYSE: LYO) and Equistar Chemicals, LP (a joint venture of which Lyondell owns 41 percent) have selected Click Commerce, Inc. to develop an Internet-based system to facilitate electronic business-to-business transactions worldwide with customers and others involved in the sales of Lyondell and Equistar products. The Lyondell/Equistar enterprise also has advanced its e-business strategy through an equity investment by Equistar in Click Commerce.

Headquartered in Chicago, Click Commerce is a provider of Internet-based, business-to-business (B2B) enterprise channel management software and services. The agreement with Lyondell and Equistar is Click Commerce's first in the chemical industry.

When fully implemented, the Lyondell/Click system is designed to provide customers with real-time, 24-hours-per-day, 7-days-per-week access to product and transaction information. The system will be customizable to better accommodate individual customer's needs. These features are designed to make sales transactions more efficient and enhance the value of the customer/supplier relationship.

Lyondell and Equistar recently announced equity participation in Envera, the global e-marketplace chemical and petroleum consortium. While both the Envera and Click Commerce systems will complement existing business relationships, Click Commerce's implementation will function as an Extranet link between Lyondell/Equistar and trading partners while Envera will function as a neutral marketplace for the consortium's international membership. Both are part of the Lyondell/Equistar e-business strategy of integrating several e-channels to add value for customers and the enterprise.

"The greatest potential contributions of e-business for the Lyondell enterprise are the addition of value for our customers and suppliers, as well as enhanced efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our business processes," said Dan F. Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lyondell and Chief Executive Officer of Equistar. "The Click Commerce system will help us realize this potential. We are pleased to team with Click Commerce in the implementation of this important initiative for our customers and to be a strategic investor in Click Commerce."
