LyondellBasell Volunteers to Assist Communities in 20 Countries for Annual Global Care Day of Community Service

HOUSTON, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LyondellBasell volunteers on five continents will demonstrate their commitment to community service on Saturday, April 13 as part of the company's annual Global Care Day program.

More than 3,500 LyondellBasell volunteers in 67 communities worldwide will participate in the company's 14th annual Global Care Day.  The global day of community service will involve volunteer service activities in 20 countries contributing a combined 14,000 hours of volunteer service.

"Great companies have great volunteers and LyondellBasell has people around the world doing great things in their communities, not just on Global Care Day, but year round," said LyondellBasell CEO Jim Gallogly.  "But Global Care Day is a special day for LyondellBasell when our people can make significant contributions in their communities around the world in a span of 24 hours."

Some LyondellBasell sites have organized multiple service projects, adding up to 70 total projects that will provide an estimated economic impact of nearly $400,000.  Projects will focus on environmental conservation, community prosperity and education – three outreach areas in the company's Fostering Success community engagement programs.

Activities scheduled for April 13 include litter collection at the Great Wall of China in Beijing and also in Channelview, Texas; as well as assistance at emergency shelters in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Wesseling, Germany.  Volunteers will target hunger programs in Houston and Rotterdam, Netherlands.  Environmental projects will include nature centers at Bayreuth, Germany, Bay City and Pasadena, Texas.  Employees at Clyde, Australia, have scheduled repairs at the Ronald McDonald House.

Other Global Care Day activities are scheduled in communities in Australia, China, Dubai, India, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. In Europe, projects are slated in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, and United Kingdom.  The Americas will see two projects in Brazil and another in Mexico.  Projects in the U.S. will take place in Morris and Tuscola, Illinois; Clinton, Iowa; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Lansing, Michigan; Edison and Newark, New Jersey; Cincinnati and Fairport Harbor, Ohio.  Texas sites include Alvin, Bay City, Channelview, Corpus Christi, Houston, La Porte, Mansfield, Markham, Mont Belvieu, Pasadena and Victoria.

LyondellBasell hosted its inaugural Global Care Day in 2000 as a way to reach out to local communities where the company operates. It challenges employees worldwide to participate in community service above and beyond ongoing community involvement activities with a special project on the same day.  Each participating site selects a project that meets the following criteria: it addresses a community need, it is aligned with one of the company's community-relations focus-areas of education, environmental conservancy or community prosperity and the result will be a visible improvement because of employee involvement.
